See below for answers to our most common Meditation Challenge related questions.

Can I invite a friend to the Challenge?

Absolutely! Tap the Invite a Friend button on the Challenge screen and invite your friends by sending a message using one of the options that pops up. If they don't already have a Happier account, they’ll need to download the Happier app and set up an account to accept your invitation. Once your friend accepts your invite, you’ll be able to see each others' progress and send each other nudges. Your friends will need a free trial or subscription access to the app too. If they're not already Happier members, try offering them a Guest Pass - 30 days of free subscription access with no strings attached!

If you want to participate in the event as a group, for privacy purposes each person needs to 'friend' every other person individually.

How do I find something I missed during the Challenge?

To find previous Challenge lessons, videos and meditations:

  • Open the Happier app and go to the Challenge screen (it will pop automatically during the Challenge).
  • Scroll down until you see Missed a Session?
  • Tap See Past Sessions.

Please note:

  • Meditations count on the day you actually meditate, not the date the content was released.
  • Podcast episodes that go along with a lesson are available in the Happier app or your Apple Podcasts app. Podcasts don’t count towards your Challenge statistics, milestones, or your streak.
  • Featured Talks are available in the Happier app under the Podcasts tab. Talks don’t count towards your Challenge statistics, milestones, or your streak.

Do I need a subscription or free trial to participate in the Challenge?

This meditation challenge is completely free! You don't need a free trial or subscription to participate.

The free version of the app has two free courses and over 50 guided meditations. From January 8th through the 21st the content for the Imperfect Challenge will also be free!

  • If you already have a free account, look for the Join Challenge prompt in your app.

Each day of the challenge we’ll feature a short video lesson followed by a related meditation. Additional resources for those who want to go deeper will be offered too. These lessons and meditations will also be available in the Courses section of the Happier app when the Challenge ends. With a subscription, you can continue to build your skills and habits and use everything else Happier offers.

Do I need a subscription or free trial to participate in the Challenge?

Yes, the lessons and guided meditations for this Challenge require a subscription or free trial.

  • If you’re new to Happier, welcome! Please download the free Happier app from Apple's App Store or the Google Play store and create an account. Sign up for the Challenge inside the app when you see the Join Challenge prompt show up. At that time you can sign up for a free trial or subscription to access the content. While you’re waiting for the event to start, you can go through The Basics course and explore the app.
  • If you already have a subscription, thank you! Enjoy the Challenge and let us know if you have any questions.
  • If you already have a free account, look for the Join Challenge prompt in your app and subscribe for access to the Challenge. Users with free accounts are eligible for a 40% discount on a yearly subscription ($59.99 USD for your first year of membership). Log in to your account on the web and purchase your subscription. Can I remove a friend that I added to the Challenge?

You bet.

On an Apple device, scroll down the Challenge screen until you see the friend you want to remove, then swipe left on their name and tap Delete.

On an Android device, scroll down the Challenge screen until you see their name, long-press on it, and tap Remove.

This will remove the person from your circle and remove you from their circle. You’ll no longer be able to see each other's progress or send each other nudges.

How can I join the Challenge?

Between January 29th and February 14th you can join the event inside the Happier app by tapping Join Challenge and following the instructions. You can also open this web page on the same device you're using for the app and tap this Join Link. Detailed instructions on how to join are in our Help Center article How to Join a Happier Challenge.

The Challenge isn’t available on a desktop computer so make sure you’re using your mobile phone or tablet to join. Our Help Center article Happier on a Computer has a list of the resources we offer outside the app.

Do I need an Apple Watch for this Challenge?

You don’t need an Apple Watch to participate in the Challenge. However, if you have one, you can use these apps to get credit for meditating during the Challenge:

You need to have Happier integrated with the Health app on your iPhone to get credit for meditations done on your Apple Watch. Check out our Help Center articles:

I don’t see a filled in circle for one of the days of the Challenge but I meditated that day.

If you completed a session but didn’t get credit for it in the Challenge, we can help you fix it. First, try fully quitting then reopening the Happier app.

  • If that doesn't fix the issue and you’re an Android user, please contact our support team at challenge@meditatehappier.com.
  • If you use an iPhone or iPad, you’ll use the Apple Health App to add the missing minutes manually. Please see this Help Center article for detailed instructions on how to do this.

Tip: Be sure to meditate for at least one minute or longer to get credit in the Challenge.

Troubleshooting (Can’t join or the Friend Invite isn’t working.)

If you run into any snags, check which version of the app you're using on your phone. It might need to be updated. For the steps to check your Happier app version, read How to Tell What Version of the App You're Using, or use the links here. You’ll need to open this page on your cell phone or tablet, then tap the appropriate link.

Is there a specific time of day I need to meditate to get credit for that day?

As long as you meditate using the app between the hours of midnight and 11:59 PM in your local time zone, your meditation will count for that date. Meditations that finish after midnight will count for the following day’s tally because the date has changed. If you’re trying to meditate so a session counts for a given day, make sure it’s completed in the app before midnight on that day.

How long do I have to meditate to get credit for that day?

All it takes is one minute! The featured sessions tend to be about 10 minutes in length but even one minute will count!

I meditated on my own instead of using the app - can I get Challenge credit for it?

If you’re using the Happier app on an iPhone you can use the Apple Health App to add the missing minutes manually. Please see this Help Center article for detailed instructions.

If you’re an Android user, we don’t currently support adding meditation time completed outside the Happier app. However, you’re welcome to use our Unguided Timer to log the equivalent time. Just note that the session will have to run on its own to completion and won’t register as complete if you fast-forward it to the end. You need to run it on the same day you meditated - so the easiest way to get credit is just to use it as you meditate.

What are the dates of the Healthy Habits Challenge?

The Healthy Habits Challenge starts on Monday, June 19th and runs for 7 days. To complete the Challenge you need to log mindful minutes for at least 5 days during that time.

The last day to join and be able to complete the Challenge is June 21st.

What are the dates of the Stress Better Challenge?

The Stress Better Challenge starts on Monday, September 11th and runs for 7 days. To complete the Challenge you need to log mindful minutes for at least 5 days during that time.

The last day to join and be able to complete the Challenge is September 13th.

What do I have to do to get credit for meditating? Do I have to do the “featured session” or can I do another meditation?

In addition to the day's featured session, anything in the Courses, Singles, or Sleep tab that you use for 1 minute or longer will count towards your Challenge statistics. Practice in Action and Wisdom Clips also count! Talks offer incredible supporting information about mindfulness meditation but they don’t count for your Challenge completion.

If you have an Apple Watch you can also use any of the meditation sessions (but not the Talks) on it as long as you’ve connected your Watch app to your Happier account through the Apple Health app. Sessions need to run for one minute or longer to be counted in the Challenge. What are the dates of the Imperfect Challenge?

The Imperfect Challenge starts on Monday, January 8th and runs for 14 days. You can join the event anytime between January 1st and the 21st.

To "complete" the Challenge you need to meditate for at least 10 days during that time but if you haven't joined by the 12th, don't let that stop you. It's still worth signing up and trying it out!

Where can I find the podcasts that go along with the Challenge?

App subscribers can listen ad-free inside the app or you can check out our Help Center article Where to Find the Happier Podcast to find the podcast for free.

What are the dates of the Taming Anxiety Challenge?

The Taming Anxiety Challenge starts on Monday, February 5th and runs for 10 days. You can join the event anytime between January 29th and February 14th.

To "complete" the Challenge you need to meditate for at least 7 days during that time but if you haven't joined by the 8th, don't let that stop you. It's still worth signing up and trying it out!

Where did my Challenge go?

If you accidentally tap “Quit Challenge” and leave the Challenge, please contact our support team at challenge@meditatehappier.com for help rejoining.
